The Perfect Wedding Video: Book & Short Movie by Hans Ayala

March 9th, 2010

2009-chicago-toshots-526-reduced-size My goal within the next two years is to write and publish a book and produce a short movie out of this book. The title of this book is ‘The Perfect Wedding Video.’ I started this morning outlining the content of this book. This short movie and book could lead to bigger things, TV shows, award winning production, etc.

My goal and drive is to build a multi-millionaire video production company within the next six to eight years. I know many people have set a goal to be millionaires in their lives, one time or another. One of many things that I learned in life is that you have nothing to lose by trying. As the greatest Hockey Player, Wayne Gretzky said, “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

When people are asked, ‘what would you do if you had a million dollar?’ Most people would say, travel, buy a house and car, quit my job, etc. Only a few people would say, ‘I would do what I’m doing now.’ These are usually successful people, coincidentally millionaires or billionaires.

Becoming a millionaire does not happen overnight! Unless you win the lottery. You have to work for it! That is the beauty of the journey. If it came too easy, you would not appreciate the work you’ve put into it. You could not bring value to others and yourself if you didn’t go through all the barriers or hurdles to get to it. In fact, you should feel and think that you are already a millionaire by the fact that you are working towards it!

So, please read a little paragraph from my to-be-publish-book, ‘The Perfect Wedding Video’. Note that this is not the introduction of the book, but background notes. The background notes is about the author, yours truly! Any feedback (good or bad) would be greatly appreciated!

Here it is, ‘Background notes from the author:’

“I, Hans Ayala, was born on September 15, 1976 in Zacatecoluca, El Salvador. Unless you are very good at tongue twisters, you’ll have no problem saying Zacatecoluca in a sentence. I always had problem pronouncing it myself when I was a kid. This was my first tongue twister experience. People asked me where was I born. So I had not choice but to use it in a sentence. Because I could not say the complete word, I started using the shorten version, Zacate. However, most people didn’t know the shorten version unless you were from Zacatecoluca. Zacate in Spanish literally translates to ‘grass.’ So you could imagine people’s reaction when I told them I was born in a grass town. Even at this day, I still sometimes say I was born in Zacate, just for the kicks of it! My favourite saying is ‘Zacate in the house!’ Not that I have zacate in the house, just as an expression to represent my hometown.”

San Antonio Riverwalk Video

March 8th, 2010

2009-chicago-toshots-526-reduced-sizeI went to San Antonio, Texas in late December 2009. I took my small consumer camera, which I got as a present. Its a Sony HDR-CX100. I took footages from famous San Antonio riverwalk. Some of you will recognize the footages from Miss Congeniality which was shot in San Antonio mostly in this historic area. If you go to San Antonio, I highly recommend to take the San Antonio riverwalk boat tour. The food is amazing, especially if you are into Mexican food. I posted this video in my youtube TOshots account, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdLfuJKZYb0. My next trip is Peru visit Machu Picchu, and I’m planning to take video footages and share them in my blog as well as my Youtube account. Enjoy this video from San Antonio riverwalk, visit:

Why hire wedding videographer?

October 10th, 2009

2009-chicago-toshots-526-reduced-sizeHans Ayala from TOshots.com :

I found this well written article explaining why it’s important to hire a professional wedding videographer.

Source: http://www.topweddingsites.com/wedding-videography.html

The Wedding and Event Videographers Association (WEVA), an international professional group founded in the 1980s, commissioned a 2005 nationwide study to look at brides’ attitudes about videography both before and after their weddings. The brides were asked to rank videography on a personal “Top 10” list of wedding priorities.

Prior to their weddings, barely 50% of the brides listed videography as a Top 10 item. However, after the weddings the emphasis changed dramatically. A whopping 79% of the brides placed videography among their Top 10 items for wedding planning.
I would bet that a follow-up survey, checking with brides a year or more after their weddings, would show the percentages climbing even higher. Here’s why: Your video (and your photographs), unlike the contributions of other vendors, are the “to have and to hold” parts of your wedding celebration. They endure — long after the bouquets have withered, the top of the cake has been taken out of the freezer and shared at an anniversary dinner, and you have forgotten whether the Mikasa platter was a gift from Aunt Sally or Cousin George.

Only the video brings back the voices, the laughter, and the music – capturing not just how everyone looked, but how they were. It preserves moments to be relived and to be shared with people who weren’t present (or weren’t even born).

As time goes by, brides realize that their video was an investment. When they were looking for a caterer or a florist, they were shopping for an occasion. When they were choosing a videographer, they were indeed arranging to buy something that would last as long as their wedding rings.

Top and Most Popular Songs Played in Weddings – First Dance/ Bride and Father/ Groom and Mother/ Garter and Bouquet/ Last Dance/ Ceremony

July 16th, 2009

2009-chicago-toshots-526-reduced-sizeHans Ayala from TOshots.com :

My friend John suggested to post a blog on list of top 10 songs most played in weddings. John, here is the blog.

In case you are having difficulties selecting songs for your first dance, bride and father song, etc. Of course you can be original, go outside the norms and be a rebel. It is all up to you as to how you want your wedding day to be.

Remember the songs you choose will always be played every time you watch your wedding video. You want to make sure that they are memorable and have an attachment to your wedding day, but also to you as a couple. I would suggest to choose songs that you both enjoyed when you were dating or you felt a special moment. So that when your kids and grand kids watch them, you can tell a story as to why you chose those songs. Shocking Day – Michael Jackson

June 26th, 2009

2009-toshots-crop12Hans Ayala from TOshots.com

How can I go without saying anything about this shocking day of our times. ‘Elvis’ of our times has passed away, Michael Jackson, KING OF POP. Yes he is a controversial icon, but who isn’t. He succeeded beyond anyone’s imagination. His legacy will live forever. The first thing that comes to my mind, when someone mentions Michael Jackson, is ‘the moon walk.’ Who would it ‘thunk it’ that there will ever be a move called, ‘the moon walk.’

You know what else he also left behind, his accomplishments and success. Everyone have dreams of being successful. It is those dreams that keep us going. We all thrive to be the best that we can be.

It is one of those days that makes you realize how fragile our lives are. Yes a cliche, how much we take life for granted. I experience a tragic loss in our family this year. My cousin, Gustavo Fuentes, died in a car accident at the age of 24, a month after his graduation. It is an experience that make me realize that our lives can be taken away in seconds. After time passes by, we forget about how we felt at that moment that we should cherish every moment, that’s human nature.

In my opinion, we do cherish and appreciate our lives and people around us unconsciously, even though we don’t realize it. We love the people we are surrounded with. Even though we don’t say it to them all the time. But then again, why not say the ‘L’ word, and wait until is too late, God forbid. However, our actions speaks louder than our words, and that’s where we take comfort. We think of our spouse, family and friends at our work or wherever place we are at, and say to ourselves ‘I wish my … was here.’ If its appropriate you would call them. Sometimes we call them because we miss them. You don’t have to say it. You miss them every time you call them, just by the fact that you called. It’s just that we are caught up with our daily live activities, especially in North American societies. We are too busy with our work and don’t have time to call ‘them.’ And you know who they are, especial people in our lives. But, at the end of day, your family and friends come first. They are there when you need them, and you will be there when they need you. Sometimes we need to take time off from our daily work and activities, and do something together with our family and friends. Put all those dreams and ambitions behind, and concentrate what’s really important, people in our lives.

In my opinion, your dreams and ambitions should include environmental and social responsibility. What I mean is do not put your success above them. For example, if you are starting a business, try to reduce your paper usage. We live in the 21st century, try to use reusable or electronic materials to market or run your business. Above all, treat people the way you want to be treated. For example, if you are boss, do not put yourself in a pedestal, put yourself in your ‘co-workers’ shoes. I use ‘co-worker’ not ‘subordinate’ to refer to your ‘employees’, because at the end of day your success is measure how well you do as a team. You are only strong as your weakest link. If your business is doing well, why not share some of your wealth to society by donating money to charity organizations. It is good for your soul and well being of others.

Those are my two cents.

Kissing Games

June 24th, 2009

2009-chicago-toshots-526-reduced-size4Hans Ayala from TOshots.com

What is ‘Kissing Games’?

Traditionally guests tap their glasses with forks or knives, and the bride and groom would kiss. ;) It is still done, but ‘Master of Ceremony’ (MC) spices it up with games. This is the reason why it’s called ‘Kissing Games.’ MC would involve the guests or audience by having them participate in some games. For instance, they would use a large dice. Depending on the number it lands on, the participant would do something like a dance, sing, kiss if it was a couple, then the Bride and Groom would kiss. However, there are other MCs that like to use modern games, e.g. ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ but the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Movie version. If you have not seen this movie, ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ I highly recommend it. Not well known cast, but amazing video production and script.

Back to ‘Kissing Games,’ Brides and Grooms, I would also recommend that you also spice up your kisses. I know your mom and dad are watching, but make it fun. Come out of your table into the dance floor and do a dipping kiss. You will get your guests, wowing. It will also get you lose. Enjoy your day! This is your day! You have work so hard to make it happen, why not have fun along the way.

Kissing games are fun, and you as a couple should make it fun as well. Come out of your shell, do a ‘Spider Man’ kiss, groom hanging up side down kissing his queen. Okay, maybe I got a little bit carried away. But if you are looking to do something out of the ordinary, there is one that you can try! ;)

Economic Recession Affecting Wedding Video Industry

June 11th, 2009

hans-film-festival-to-national-crop-picture9Hans Ayala from TOshots.com :

Everyone is being affected by this economic recession. You may have experience it personally or might know someone that has been laid off.

Many industries out there have been affected by this economic downturn, the wedding video production industry is not any different. Many wedding video company have reduced their prices. Many people believe, once one reduces their prices, it’s difficult to bring them back up again. I don’t believe it’s true. I believe it’s necessary during difficult times. Wedding video producers need to make a living. Because business is slow, many reduced their prices to generate more business. It creates spiral phenomenon, once a large wedding video company reduces their prices, everyone in the industry will do too. It turns into a vicious cycle. This is why I believe, the price will go up again. Once this economic recession passes by, just as every other recession we have had in history. The industry will start increasing their prices to their fair value. It will again take a leader (major wedding company) to lead again, and set the benchmark prices once again.

Business will always be there. It’s just media influence driven perception that creates this psychological pessimistic outlook. Couples will continue to fulfill their promise to each other. Their wedding day will go on, just like Celine Dion’s song, ‘my heart will go on.’ ;) They will continue to be together during good and bad times. Of course, during difficult times they will look for bargains.

It is only fair to adjust accordingly to the times you are living in. I do believe that if you have a positive outlook in life, and be true to yourself, you will feel good about yourself, regardless of what’s happening around you. The main point, it’s that you are not being affected emotionally. Keep this positive energy, outlook, and attitude, and your clients will see this in you. You are already responding to their needs by reducing your prices during this difficult times we are living in.

There are people out there that are taking advantage of this situation and offering gigs below industry level compensation. Do not lower yourself. Have pride at the work you do and get compensated for the right price for your skills and knowledge. Remember you are not just lowering your compensation, but also everyone else in the industry. People have worked hard and dedicated many hours to acquire such skills and knowledge.

Those are my two cents for today. My blog it’s my own personal opinions, observations and beliefs.

P.S. Be and remain positive at all times. You are reflection of your own attitude and beliefs. What you project of yourself, it’s what you’ll receive back. Just like Newton’s Law, ‘for every action there is an equal reaction.’ If you project a positive energy and attitude around you, you will receive the same energy and atttitude back.

Love Walk Wedding Video Tips

June 9th, 2009

hans-film-festival-to-national-crop-picture4Hans Ayala from TOshots.com :

What is a Love Walk?

Love walk is a romantic walk with your fiance in a park, street, or a place where you have a moment to yourselves. Think back, the day when you first met. You were thinking, ‘what should I wear, should I do my make up and nails, do the earrings match my outfit, and so forth.’ Dress to impress! If you have been dating for a while, it’s a re-candling moment!

Tip, always do your nails, the videographer will do a close up on your engagement ring. You don’t want your undone nails to obstruct your diamond ring. ;) Also do your toe nails. It always looks nice when videographer does a close up on your feet as you are walking. Videographers will also do a close up on your eyes. It is very important to cover every detail, from nails to make up. The point here is not to make your wedding video a modeling shoot video. Unless of course you are looking for this style of video. Think of it as reliving or living the moment when you first met.

Another tip, act naturally. What I mean is, live the moment with your fiance. Do not think about your surroundings, specifically the videographer. Think of it as the day when you first fell in love with your fiance, where nothing around you matter. If you are an outgoing and spontaneous couple, let loose, let your personality show in this video. If you are the opposite, be yourself. The video should capture your personality. So that when you look back at your video, you can say, ‘that’s us’ when we first met.

Love walks are usually done in a park, street, lake, ocean, etc. Make sure the place you choose have variety of settings. For example, a bench, bridge, waterfall, fountains, flowers, trees, and all different types of settings. Settings in nature are always nice because you have all these natural colours and sounds around you.

The more setting variety you have in your shoot, the better it will look in your wedding video. Different settings add energy,  excitement and variety to your wedding video, that makes people want to see it, again and again. More importantly, you will see special details in each setting. You will be saying, ‘remember when we were lying down next to the flowers and trees … ‘ and ‘you were … ‘

I recommend that if you have a place that is special to both of you, park, lake, university or a place where you first experience ‘that moment.’ I suggest you use it. It will be an everlasting moment that will be special to you and anyone you share your wedding video with.

TOshots.com Company Background and History

June 9th, 2009

Hi ladies and gents,

img_0161My name is Hans Ayala from TOshots.com.

I started a Toronto and destination wedding and corporate video production company called, ‘TOshots’ in September, 2008. ‘TO’ referring to Toronto, and ‘shots’, evidently ‘shots’ captured in video. Long story short, the name popped-out of the blue, on a storming name discussion, ‘of what we should call our Internet website hobby name.’ Many names blurted out, some names as you can imagine us saying, ‘WHAT!!!’ However, there were two names that we really liked. Fortunately enough, only one of them was not taken.

Back to why I started this company. I enjoy working with video cameras and produce final products in the editing room. Now, I’ve began blogging mainly to give brides tips to make informative decisions. Hopefully, you will like our videos and choose our TOshots.com service ;)

However, my goal here is not to persuade you to choose us, but to give you useful and comprehensive information. Info that you will use to get the best video production for your wedding video. I will be posting blogs on what is a ‘love walk.’ Define and explain those wedding video terms used by wedding video companies. How should I dress for a ‘love walk’? Why should I do my nails for a ‘love walk’ shoot? Where are those nice parks and places in Toronto for a wedding video? What kind of park or settings that’s  best for us? etc…

I’ll be posting all types of tips, so that you can use and have an unforgettable wedding video that you, and your family and friends will watch over and over again! Your wedding video should make you feel as if you were there again!
